Privacy, data deletion & terms

Poker Homie is a record-keeping app for home poker games. It collects as little as it can get away with: an email and a display name so you can sign in, and the buy-ins and cash-outs you choose to record.

Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Poker Homie ("the app", "we", "I") collects, why, and what you can do about it. Poker Homie is developed and operated by Nhat Doan, an individual developer.

1. The short version

  • If you use an account, we store your email, display name, and the game records you create.
  • If you use Offline Mode, nothing leaves your device at all.
  • There are no ads, no third-party analytics, and no tracking SDKs in the app.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.
  • You can delete your account from inside the app at any time.

2. Information we collect

We only collect information you provide by using the app. We do not buy data about you or collect it from other sources.

CategoryWhat it isWhy we have it
Account details Email address, display name, password To create your account, sign you in, recover access, and show your name to other players in a session
Game records Session names, players in a session, buy-in and cash-out amounts, host/viewer role, timestamps, and an optional session join code To keep the shared ledger, calculate the settlement, and sync your sessions across devices
Offline sessions The same kind of game records, stored only on your device To let you use the app without an account. This data is never uploaded
Technical data Standard connection information such as IP address and app version, processed by our infrastructure providers when the app talks to the server To deliver the service, keep it secure, and diagnose faults

The amounts you record are just numbers you type in. Poker Homie is currency-agnostic and does not know or care what unit they represent.

3. What we do not collect

  • No advertising identifiers, and no advertising networks in the app.
  • No third-party analytics, attribution, or crash-reporting SDKs.
  • No location data, contacts, photos, camera, or microphone access.
  • No payment information. Poker Homie never processes, transfers, or holds money of any kind.

4. How we use your information

We use the information above only to provide and maintain the app: to authenticate you, store and sync the sessions you create, show the shared ledger to the other players in a session, calculate settlements, and respond to you when you contact support. We do not use your information for advertising or profiling, and we do not make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

5. Sharing your information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Your information is shared only in these situations:

With other players in a session
When you join or are added to a session, your display name and your buy-in, cash-out, and net figures for that session are visible to the other participants. That is the point of a shared ledger. It does not include your email address.
With service providers
We use Amazon Web Services (Amazon Cognito for sign-in, AWS AppSync and Amazon DynamoDB for game records) and Expo (for delivering app updates). These providers process data on our behalf, under their own security and privacy commitments, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
When the law requires it
We may disclose information if we are legally required to do so, or where we believe in good faith that it is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
On a change of ownership
If the app is ever sold or transferred, your information may transfer with it. You would be notified through the app or by email before any such transfer takes effect.

6. Where your data is stored

Account and game data is stored on Amazon Web Services infrastructure located in the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, you are transferring your information to the United States, where data protection law may differ from that of your own country.

7. How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account exists. Game records are kept for as long as the session exists, including after you archive it, so that you and the other participants retain a history of the game.

When you delete your account, your account record is removed. Entries you contributed to sessions shared with other players are retained, because those entries form part of the other participants' own record of a game they played. See Delete your account for the detail.

8. Security

Sign-in is handled by Amazon Cognito; passwords are hashed by that service and are never visible to us. Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit, and game data is encrypted at rest by our infrastructure providers. Access to a session's data is restricted to the participants of that session.

Please note that a session join code is not a security control. It exists so that people you share it with can find and join the right game, and it is stored in a form that allows it to be shown back to the host. Treat it like a room code you would read aloud, and never reuse a password from another service.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your rights and choices

  • Access and correction — you can view and change your display name and password in the app at any time.
  • Deletion — you can delete your account in the app, or by emailing us. See below.
  • Use without an account — Offline Mode lets you use the app with no account and no server-side data at all.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information — such as the right to request a copy of it, to object to or restrict its processing, or to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these, email us at the address below and we will respond within the period required by applicable law.

10. Children

Poker Homie is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Poker Homie after a change means you accept the revised policy.

12. Contact

Questions about privacy, or a request about your data: doan.v.nhat@gmail.com.

Delete your account

You can delete your Poker Homie account and its associated data at any time, either from inside the app or by emailing us.

Delete from inside the app

  1. Open Poker Homie and sign in.
  2. Go to the Profile tab.
  3. Tap Delete account and confirm.

Your account is deleted immediately and you are signed out.

Request deletion without the app

Email doan.v.nhat@gmail.com from the address on your account, with the subject "Delete my account". We will process the request within 30 days and confirm by reply. We may need to verify that you control the account before acting on the request.

What is deleted

  • Your account record: email address, display name, and login credentials.
  • Your ability to sign in. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

What is kept, and why

  • Buy-in and cash-out entries in sessions you shared with other players. A session ledger is a shared record of a game that several people played, so removing one participant's entries would destroy the other participants' record and change what they are owed. These entries are retained and are no longer linked to a usable account.
Offline Mode. If you used Poker Homie without an account, that data is stored only on your device and was never sent to any server. Uninstalling the app deletes it. There is nothing for us to delete on our side.

Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Nhat Doan ("we", "us") covering your use of the Poker Homie mobile app and this website (together, "the Service"). By downloading or using the Service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. What Poker Homie is — and is not

Poker Homie is a record-keeping and arithmetic tool. You enter the buy-ins and cash-outs from a game you are playing in the real world, and the app keeps the ledger and calculates the smallest set of transfers that settles it.

Poker Homie does not:

  • host, operate, facilitate, or enable any game of chance or skill;
  • accept wagers, or process, hold, transfer, or transmit money or anything of value;
  • provide any payment, banking, escrow, or money-transmission service;
  • verify that any amount recorded in the app was ever actually paid.

The numbers in the app are a record of what you told it. Any actual settlement between players happens entirely outside the Service, between the people involved.

2. Your responsibility for your game

You are solely responsible for the games you play and record, and for ensuring that your conduct complies with all laws that apply to you, including any laws in your jurisdiction concerning gaming or gambling. We do not provide legal advice, and nothing in the Service should be taken as a statement that any particular activity is lawful where you are.

3. Your account

You must provide accurate information when creating an account, keep your credentials confidential, and be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher). You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to facilitate any unlawful activity;
  • access, or try to access, sessions or data belonging to people who have not invited you;
  • interfere with, overload, probe, or attempt to breach the Service or its infrastructure;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except where that restriction is prohibited by law;
  • upload content that is unlawful, abusive, harassing, or infringes anyone's rights;
  • impersonate another person, or misrepresent who you are in a session.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the session names, player names, and figures you enter. You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and display that content for the purpose of operating the Service — for example, showing your entries to the other participants of a session you joined. We do not use your content for any other purpose.

You are responsible for having the right to enter any personal information about other people, such as their name, into the app.

6. Shared sessions

When you create or join a session with other players, that session is a shared record. Other participants can see the display names and figures in it, and the host can add or remove players and edit the ledger. Do not put anything into a session that you would not want the other participants to see.

7. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service running, but it is provided on an "as available" basis. We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time, and we may need to take the Service down for maintenance. We are not liable to you for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.

8. Price

Poker Homie is currently free to use and contains no advertising. If we ever introduce paid features, we will make the terms clear before you are charged, and existing functionality that you already rely on will not be put behind a paywall without notice.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account as described above. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms, or if we are required to do so by law. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law — will survive.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any calculation, record, or settlement figure it produces is accurate or suitable for your purposes. You are responsible for checking the numbers before anyone pays anyone.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or money, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service — including any dispute between players about who owes what. Our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty-five US dollars (US$25).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the above exclusions and limitations apply only to the extent permitted, and you may have additional rights.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, your breach of these terms, or your violation of any law or of the rights of a third party.

13. App store terms

If you obtained the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, you also agree to that store's terms. Those stores are not parties to this agreement, are not responsible for the app, and have no obligation to provide support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms as they apply to the iOS app and may enforce them against you.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If a change is material, we will update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the revised terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California for any dispute that is not otherwise resolved, except that either party may seek relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect its intellectual property rights. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory laws of your country of residence.

16. Miscellaneous

These terms, together with the Privacy Policy above, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of the app.

17. Contact

Questions about these terms: doan.v.nhat@gmail.com.
